چکیده

objectives: to implement goal-directed subsidies policy in framework of the its law is being seriously followed by state. implementing this policy as it has been defined in the law could be a deep surgery of economy with big negative consequences both in demand and supply sides if its theoretical foundation is wrong. hence, this paper aims to evaluate the theoretical sufficiency of neoclassical big bang approach to economy reforms. method: the used method in this paper in called as critical analytical approach in which theoretical fallacies of goal-directed subsidies policy has been argued and documented to relative data. after introducing the big bang approach to economy reforms and its theoretical foundation, it’s criticized using a structuralinstitutional approach to main causes of iranian economic problems and showed that this policy will fail in reaching to the defined aims due to its incorrect perception of main causes of problems. it seems that this policy is based on some methodological mistakes in estimation of subsidies and also identifying the poor which have been argued in the rest parts of paper. findings: if the main root of iranian economic problems is related more to organizational inefficiencies than price inefficiencies, goal-directed subsidies policy could not be a correct policy in treating the problems. overestimation of subsidies which is related to some wrong methodological perceptions of subsidies could lead to wrong price decision making. there are two errors in identifying the poor which could decrease the efficiency of this policy. result: if there is a necessity to make a price reform in economy it would be better to follow the graduate price reform

Strategic price subsidies for new technologies

In the literature, the study of price subsidies of new technologies has focused on the tactical problem of achieving maximum penetration under a budget constraint over a short horizon. In practice, such tactical, short-termpenetration objectives seemboth to adequately reflect the structure ofmany price subsidy programs (e.g., solar energy), and account for their high failure rate. The present p...

Do Consumer Price Subsidies Really Improve Nutrition?

Many developing countries use food-price subsidies or controls to improve nutrition. However, subsidizing goods on which households spend a high proportion of their budget can create large wealth effects. Consumers may then substitute towards foods with higher non-nutritional attributes (e.g., taste), but lower nutritional content per unit of currency, weakening or perhaps even reversing the su...

Output Price Subsidies in a Stochastic World

This article studies the comparative statics of output subsidies for firms, with monotonic preferences over costs and returns, that face price and production uncertainty. The modeling of deficiency payments, support-price schemes, and stochastic supply shifts in a state-space framework is discussed. It is shown how these notions can be used, via a simple application of Shephard’s lemma, to anal...

Price-Linked Subsidies and Health Insurance Markups

Subsidies in the Affordable Care Act exchanges and other health insurance programs depend on prices set by insurers – as prices rise, so do subsidies. We show that these “price-linked” subsidies incentivize higher prices, with a magnitude that depends on how much insurance demand rises when the price of uninsurance (the mandate penalty) increases. To estimate this effect, we use two natural exp...

The Price of Isolation: an Integrated Study of System Inefficiencies

We present in this paper an integrated study on the selfish behavior of the players participating in the system (modeled by a noncooperative game) and the myopic attitudes of the players (modeled by the ‘rolling-horizon’ type of strategies in the dynamic decision-making process), and introduce a solution termed myopic Nash equilibrium to characterize the equilibrium state when all the players a...

Price Structures, Cross-Subsidies, and Competition in Infrastructure

Private Sector Development Department ▪ Finance, Private Sector, and Infrastructure Network Governments often regulate not only the overall level of prices charged by infrastructure firms but also the relationship between prices for different services or customers. Thus, government-controlled telephone monopolies may keep prices low for local calls and charge more for long-distance calls. Power...
